SOCAR: Seven compressors to be decommissioned at Sangachal Terminal

Seven compressors at the Sangachal terminal will be taken out of operation, Afgan Isayev, Vice President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), said at Baku Climate Action Week 2026 (BCAW 2026), according to Report.

Isayev noted that construction has begun on a 240 MW solar photovoltaic power plant in Azerbaijan's liberated Jabrayil district, in partnership with Lightsource BP:

"The purpose of this facility is to supply electricity to and electrify the Sangachal terminal, the largest oil and gas terminal in the region. Remarkably, for the first time in Azerbaijan, a virtual energy transmission agreement has been signed with the transmission system operator. This will allow us to deliver fully electrified power to the oil and gas terminal next year."

He added that seven compressors will be decommissioned, while a few will be retained for emergencies: "Annual savings will amount to several hundred thousand tons of CO₂ equivalent."
