The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) plans to expand exploration activities in Azerbaijan's onshore oil and gas regions, SOCAR Vice President Arzu Javadova stated during panel discussions on the second day of Baku Energy Week, Report informs.
Javadova highlighted the company's priorities: "The main focus areas are Guba–Caspian, Shamakhi–Gobustan, Yevlakh–Aghjabadi, and the Lower Kura basins. Azerbaijan's onshore fields have not been sufficiently studied for many years, and there is a need to collect new high-quality seismic data. Compared to offshore, the geological structure onshore is more complex. Therefore, obtaining high-quality seismic data is a key priority for preparing future activity plans."
She added that some data has already been collected in these regions, and projects have reached a preparatory stage for joint development with partners: "SOCAR intends to study both conventional and unconventional oil and gas reserves."
