SOCAR and BP cooperate on training for small and medium oil-gas firms

SOCAR is working with BP to develop training, awareness programs, practical exercises, and knowledge exchange for small and medium oil and gas companies operating in Azerbaijan, SOCAR's Deputy Vice-President Hikmat Abdullayev said during the second day of the Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW2025).

Abdullayev noted that smaller companies usually lack the resources to participate in major international initiatives. The program aims to give them access to advanced technologies and expertise that would otherwise be out of reach. He emphasized that such initiatives, though smaller in scale, are crucial for advancing the country's decarbonization and energy transition efforts.

Recalling SOCAR's joining of the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP 2.0) last year, Abdullayev highlighted that the partnership requires not only emission data but also clear plans for eliminating each emission source. This mandatory requirement encourages companies to invest in and focus on identifying, managing, and reducing emissions.

He underlined that this framework is essential and has become a mandatory standard for all exporters of oil and gas products to EU countries. Abdullayev stressed that companies in this business must comply with the OGMP requirements, which exemplify international frameworks ensuring continuous environmental improvement, emission reduction, and transition to cleaner business models.
