Slovakia seeks to import 1.2 bcm of gas from Azerbaijan annually

Slovakia plans to purchase 1.2 billion cubic meters of gas per year from Azerbaijan starting from next year, stated Slovaks Economy Minister Denisa Saková after negotiations with the Azerbaijani side in Shusha, Report informs.

According to Saková, Azerbaijan is offering five- and ten-year contracts for the supply of natural gas to a number of European Union (EU) countries.

Currently, Slovakia consumes approximately half of the gas it produces on the domestic market and exports the rest. However, Baku needs long-term contracts in order to invest in increasing production.

"We are talking about the supply of approximately 1.2 billion cubic meters of gas per year from Azerbaijan after 2027, during the period when we will no longer import gas from Russia," the minister noted.

She stated that tomorrow in Baku, negotiations will be held with the leadership of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) with the participation of representatives of Slovakia's SPP gas company. Denisa Saková emphasized that Slovakia is interested in long-term cooperation and is ready to offer its technologies and experience to Azerbaijan.

In addition, during the visit, the Azerbaijani side presented to the Slovak delegation an energy corridor project for the transit of electricity from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan to Europe via Türkiye. According to Saková's assessment, this project has significant potential for the European market.
