Schlumberger (SLB) is currently exploring the geothermal potential of Azerbaijan's Karabakh region, Jodi Wood, SLB Managing Director for Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkmenistan, said on the second day of Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW2025), Report informs.
"We are working closely with SOCAR Green to assess geothermal opportunities in Karabakh's green energy zone. As many of you know, the area has significant volcanic activity and hot springs. Water temperatures can reach 100–150 degrees Celsius. This means there's potential for traditional steam energy or geothermal heating for homes, industrial facilities, and other applications. So yes, there are promising opportunities here in Azerbaijan," she said.
Wood also noted that SLB has carbon capture technology operating globally: "Carbon capture and storage is critically important. We're working to understand how we can advance this using existing wells and our knowledge of subsurface processes. At present, we're running three projects worldwide. So, we may also bring this technology to Azerbaijan to further its development."
