Serbia is reinforcing the protection of its national energy system and plans to continue reforms of its energy legislation, Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović said at the opening of the Belgrade Energy Forum.
According to Report's Balkan bureau, the minister noted that Serbia's total renewable energy generation capacity has nearly tripled over the past four years, rising from 420 megawatts to 1,200 megawatts.
"Compared to 2024 alone, capacity in this sector has increased by around 40%. This is the result of major efforts and serious work by the state. We are moving toward a greener and more modern energy system while continuing to make significant investments in power grids and energy infrastructure to ensure our system remains stable and secure. This means we are integrating renewable energy sources into the system in a controlled manner," she said.
Đedović Handanović added that the key issue for the energy transition is ensuring system resilience and the uninterrupted daily functioning of society.
She also stated that Serbia has almost fully aligned its energy legislation with European Union regulations, particularly in the areas of renewable energy and the electricity market.
"According to the 2025 report by the Energy Community Secretariat on the implementation of strategic and legislative policies in the field of renewable energy in Serbia, the level of compliance reached around 80%, which is the highest among Energy Community member states. We expect official confirmation from the European Commission, as we have aligned our legislation with EU standards. One of the most important issues within the Energy Community is electricity market integration, and this remains our primary goal," the minister said.
