The safest energy is energy that is competitive on the domestic market and can be produced through local capabilities without being exposed to geopolitical changes.
Report informs that Francesco La Camera, Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), said this during his speech at Baku Energy Week.
"Recent events have reminded us how quickly a crisis in energy markets can reverberate across economies, industries and households around the world," he said, adding that this highlights a clear priority for governments and industry.
"Countries must accelerate the transition to reliable, affordable, locally sourced renewable energy, while also strengthening their competitiveness in an uncertain world. In this context, we are experiencing the most acute energy crisis of modern times, and there are different interpretations of it. As you know, different solutions are being proposed. However, those solutions were relevant during past energy crises. The world is changing, and we must be ready for this changing world. We are offering short-term solutions and trying to further accelerate the transition to a new energy system. But this is by no means easy," he said.
