Replacing these volumes will be a priority task for the EU energy commissioner candidate, Denmark’s Dan Jorgensen, Ursula von der Leyen told the parliament ahead of a vote to confirm her new team of commissioners for the next five years, Report informs referring to Montel News.
“It is high time to make that happen and I know this [parliament] will support us in this,” she said.
Jorgensen would work on bringing down costs for replacing Russian LNG and for investing in clean energy.
“The price of energy is structurally still too high and has to go down,” said von der Leyen.
The EU decided in 2022 to phase out Russian gas imports by 2027 to reduce the revenues available to Russia to fund its war on Ukraine, as part of the RePowerEU plan.
