Azerbaijan plans to commission eight new solar power plants by the end of 2027, Rena Humbatova, deputy director of the Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency (AREA), said at a panel discussion at the International Caspian Oil and Gas Exhibition, Report informs.
She added that one wind power plant with a total capacity of 250 megawatts is also planned to be commissioned by the end of 2027.
"However, the primary focus remains on Azerbaijan's solar potential. The Garadagh, Shafag, Ufug, Shams, and other plants will be commissioned by the end of 2027," Humbatova said.
She noted that, based on all signed investment contracts, at least four plants are planned to be commissioned by the end of 2026, including one large solar power plant with a capacity of 445 megawatts and the Gobustan plant, which will be launched by the end of this year.
Humbatova also said that the concept of a Green Energy Zone in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is currently being developed and is planned to be approved by the end of the year.
