Amid rapid urbanization, energy security challenges and climate change, green and smart cities are no longer merely development concepts, but have become one of the main driving forces of the global energy transformation.
Report informs that Energy Minister of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov said this at the High-Level Energy and Urban Dialogue held as part of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13).
According to the minister, Azerbaijan has set green energy issues as a strategic priority area:
"We are implementing large-scale renewable energy sources and cross-border energy corridor projects, expanding green energy zones, increasing energy efficiency and modernizing the power grid. Next year, 12 solar and wind power plants with a total capacity of 2 gigawatts will be commissioned, which will make it possible to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 2.4 million tons annually."
