Oil, condensate exports via Sangachal terminal down 8.5%

Oil and condensate exports via the Sangachal terminal totaled 97 million barrels in the first half of this year, down 8.5% from the same period last year, Report informs.

This was reflected in the January-June operating results report of BP-Azerbaijan, the terminal's operator.

During the reporting period, oil from the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli, ACG, block of fields, as well as condensate and natural gas from the Shah Deniz field, continued to be exported in normal mode. About 97 million barrels of oil and condensate transported from the terminal through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline were exported, the report said.

In the first six months, the terminal also exported an average of about 74 million standard cubic meters, or about 2.611 billion standard cubic feet, of Shah Deniz gas per day, unchanged from the first half of last year.

According to the company, the daily capacity of the terminal's technical processing systems currently stands at 1.2 million barrels of oil and condensate and about 81 million standard cubic meters of Shah Deniz gas. Total gas processing and export capacity, including ACG associated gas, is about 100 million standard cubic meters per day.

Gas is exported from the terminal mainly through the South Caucasus Pipeline, including the South Caucasus Pipeline Expansion system, and through an Azerbaijani-owned gas pipeline connecting the terminal's gas processing facilities with Azerigaz's distribution system.

The Sangachal terminal, located 55 kilometers south of Baku, is one of the most important facilities in Azerbaijan's oil and gas industry. Covering about 550 hectares, it is one of the world's largest oil and gas terminals.

The terminal was designed to receive, process, store and export oil and gas from all existing offshore fields operated by BP plc in the Caspian basin and has potential for expansion.
