The German-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce (AHK Azerbaijan) sees significant opportunities for attracting German investment into energy transition projects in Azerbaijan, while investors face an information gap, AHK Azerbaijan Executive Director Nargis Wieck said during a panel discussion at Baku Climate Action Week 2026 (BCAW 2026), Report informs.
"When we consider the participation of German business in the energy transition, it is about far more than exporting technology or equipment - it is about attracting direct investment from Germany. Such projects are designed for the long term, making market openness a decisive factor: investors need a clear understanding of the national strategy and tools to assess financial risks," Wieck said.
She noted that the German side is currently working to address the information gap within Germany's business community regarding economic and energy developments in the Caspian region and Central Asia.
To structure these efforts, AHK is establishing sector-specific clusters focused on the most promising areas.
Wieck identified the introduction of international certification standards and stronger public-private partnership mechanisms as key conditions for increasing foreign capital inflows.
"In Germany, the energy transition model has traditionally been built from the bottom up - through public awareness, decentralization and the active participation of market players. This experience, including the use of renewable energy for decentralized heat and electricity generation, is also highly relevant to Azerbaijan," the AHK Azerbaijan executive director concluded.
