Mukhtar Babayev: Global electrification level proposed to reach 35% by 2035

The global level of electrification is proposed to reach 35% by 2035, Azerbaijan's Presidential Representative on Climate Issues Mukhtar Babayev said at Baku Climate Action Week 2026 (BCAW 2026), Report informs.

He noted that the proposal was put forward by Türkiye.

"We understand that this is not an easy process, but it forms the basis for a gradual transition from traditional energy sources to new and alternative energy sources," Babayev said.

He stressed that the process is not limited to the energy sector.

"Some believe that electrification is only related to the energy sector. This is a completely incorrect approach. Of course, the issue is directly related to the energy sector. However, it also applies to our residential buildings," he said.

Babayev noted that cities currently account for up to 70% of global emissions.

"This means that buildings, businesses operating in cities, vehicles and other sectors are among the main sources of emissions," he added.
