Serbian state authorities will expedite the issuance of all necessary permits and administrative procedures to ensure the timely completion of a gas-fired power plant in Nis, Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Dedovic Handanovic said in an interview with Nis TV, according to Report's Balkan bureau.
The minister noted significant progress in preparations for the construction of the power plant in Nis.
She emphasized that the new power plant project would be implemented as part of a strategic partnership with Azerbaijan.
"Serbia has already started receiving its first volumes of natural gas from Azerbaijan, and this cooperation is expanding through a strategic partnership in the energy sector. Preparations for the construction of the new power plant have made significant progress. Work on spatial planning and preliminary design is currently underway in coordination with the leadership of the city of Nis," she said.
According to the minister, construction of the gas-fired power plant is scheduled to begin in 2028, with the project expected to be fully completed by 2030.
"Putting this facility into operation will not only strengthen Serbia's energy security but also play an important role in supplying energy to the region," she added.
