The export of Azerbaijani gas to Syria, and to the Middle East in general, draws attention with a number of important aspects, Azerbaijan's Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov said at the opening ceremony of the Türkiye-Syria gas pipeline, Report informs.
According to Mikayil Jabbarov, first of all, this is happening against the background of Azerbaijan already supplying natural gas to 14 countries: "This fact has transformed our country into a significant gas supplier not only in the region but also at the global level, and one of the states contributing to energy security."
The minister emphasized that today's event is a logical result of the economic and geoeconomic policy implemented by President Ilham Aliyev.
Jabbarov added that the second important aspect of the process coincides with the current sensitive period for Syria: "Syria is currently experiencing one of the turning points in its history. The restoration of normal life in the country and the sustainable provision of energy supply directly affect the welfare of millions of people. Natural gas exported from Azerbaijan will primarily be used for electricity generation and energy supply for the population."
The third aspect is related to the successes of Azerbaijan's foreign policy.
"The realization of this project is the result of the balanced and flexible foreign policy implemented by President Ilham Aliyev. This project, implemented in a very short timeframe, has been made possible thanks to international cooperation and Azerbaijan's growing influence. Here, of course, the role of SOCAR should also be noted - the company has ensured the determination of gas volumes, organization and coordination of supplies within difficult logistical and commercial conditions. But at the foundation of all this lies the trust our country has gained in the international arena," Jabbarov emphasized.
Touching on the fourth and final aspect, the minister stated that this project expands Azerbaijan's gas export geography, confirming its role as a competitive energy supplier to many directions.
"In the medium and long term, we hope that activities in this direction will expand further," Jabbarov added.
