Minister: Azerbaijan's wind power output to increase sixfold by year-end

Azerbaijan's wind energy production is expected to grow nearly sixfold by the end of 2026, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said at Baku Climate Action Week 2026 (BCAW 2026).

According to Report, the minister noted that alongside the implementation of around 8 GW of solar and wind projects, the country is strengthening electric grids, introducing energy storage systems, enhancing system flexibility, and developing new interconnectors.

"These results are already reflected in our energy balance. By the end of this year, wind power generation will rise nearly sixfold, while solar power output will increase by more than 26%. By the end of 2027, about 2 GW of solar and wind capacity will be integrated into the grid, reducing annual emissions by 2.4 million tons. Guided by President Ilham Aliyev's strategic vision, our principle is to align energy security with the green transition, build a sustainable low‑carbon energy system, and strengthen Azerbaijan's role as a regional green energy hub through diversified connections."

Shahbazov emphasized that Karabakh and East Zangazur are the core territories of Azerbaijan's green transition, where reconstruction, energy, and climate policy converge. He added that consistent steps are also being taken to implement the green energy zone concept in Nakhchivan.
