Kyrgyzstan highlights renewable energy potential at Baku Energy Forum

The formation of a regional energy market and the strengthening of interstate energy links will make it possible to improve the reliability of energy supply, optimize the use of energy resources and create conditions for trade in environmentally clean electricity.

Report informs that Kyrgyz Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev said this during the 31st Baku Energy Forum.

He noted that Central Asian countries are currently facing common challenges driven by the need to ensure energy security, climate change, rising electricity consumption and the transition to sustainable development models.

"Under the current circumstances, the development of renewable energy sources is becoming not only an environmental priority, but also an important factor in economic growth and regional stability. Kyrgyzstan has significant potential in renewable electricity sources. Hydropower forms the basis of the country"s energy sector, while there are also favorable prerequisites for the development of solar and wind energy, as well as other environmentally clean technologies. We are confident that the effective development of this potential is impossible without close cooperation among Central Asian countries," he said.

The minister said Kyrgyzstan sees regional cooperation as a key tool for advancing a number of objectives.

"First, the formation of a regional energy market and the strengthening of interstate energy links will make it possible to improve the reliability of energy supply, optimize the use of energy resources and create conditions for trade in environmentally clean electricity.

Second, it is necessary to attract investment in modern technologies. Joint regional projects have strong investment appeal. These projects make it possible to effectively attract international financing for the development of renewable energy.

Third, the exchange of experience and best practices is important. Central Asian countries have different models for developing their energy sectors. Combining experience and expertise will accelerate the introduction of innovative solutions, increase the efficiency of national energy systems and help fulfil climate commitments. Expanding the use of renewable energy sources helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve the sustainable development goals adopted by our countries under international agreements," he said.
