Kiril Temelkov: Bulgaria's goal is to enable green energy exports from Azerbaijan

Bulgaria"s main objective is to build infrastructure that would enable direct supplies of renewable energy from Azerbaijan to Bulgaria and Southeast Europe, Bulgaria"s Deputy Minister of Energy Kiril Temelkov said at the 31st Baku Energy Forum.

According to Report, he noted that Bulgaria is intensively working on the project and plans to begin a preliminary feasibility study within a year:

"We see this project as a complement to the project of a submarine cable from Azerbaijan and Georgia to Romania, and we see the possibility of implementing both projects in the future. Because during this period, a very large East-West corridor project was launched that will connect Bulgaria and the Balkan countries with Italy. This will connect the entire region with the Caspian region, enable energy exchange, and ensure security for both regions. Bulgaria produces more energy than it consumes, and its transmission capacity is more than twice its consumption. Our policy is closer cooperation with neighbors in the interest of regional security, and we will continue this policy."

The deputy minister added that Bulgaria supports the construction of the Vertical Gas Corridor, which will allow LNG (liquefied natural gas) to be supplied to Southeast European countries:

"We are in the final stage of construction of this project. At the same time, we are making every effort to invest in various electricity generation technologies. We have experience with nuclear power plants, and we are currently developing a project to build a second nuclear power plant in Bulgaria."
