Kazakhstan seeks EU support to include Trans-Caspian Energy Corridor in PMI list

Kazakhstan is working with the European Commission on including the Trans-Caspian Green Energy Corridor project on the list of Projects of Mutual Interest (PMI).

The Kazakh Ministry of Energy told Report's Kazakhstan bureau that the project to develop and transmit green energy between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan is an important initiative of trilateral energy cooperation.

"The development of the feasibility study is currently underway, with its completion planned for January 2027," the ministry said.

The ministry also noted that efforts are underway to promote the project internationally.

"To strengthen institutional support, the Kazakh side has initiated cooperation with the European Commission on including the project in the list of Projects of Mutual Interest (PMI)," the ministry said.

Leading Italian international consulting company CESI has been selected as the consultant for developing the feasibility study.

The financial model and key technical parameters of the project will be determined following completion of the feasibility study.

The feasibility study is estimated to cost around 1 million euros and is being financed through grants from the Asian Development Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.

On June 1, 2025, Azerenerji OJSC, KEGOC and the National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan signed a document establishing Yasil Dehliz Birliyi LLC to implement the Trans-Caspian Green Energy Corridor project connecting Central Asia with Azerbaijan.
