The Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) project, implemented on Azerbaijan's initiative, is the most modern example of solidarity and strategic regional commitment in the European region, said Bulgaria's Deputy Minister of Energy, Iva Petrova, Report informs.
She made the remark during the panel discussion themed "Global cooperation for a sustainable and continuous energy future" within the framework of the 30th Anniversary International Caspian Oil and Gas Exhibition and the 13th Caspian International Energy and Green Energy International Exhibition held in Baku.
According to Petrova, energy security is a global challenge that cannot be met without reliable partnership and cooperation, as well as solutions adapted to the regional context:
"Bulgaria is investing heavily in the future, in sustainable energy infrastructure. This involves interconnected, scalable and flexible transmission capacities that enable sustainability and security agenda. The most modern example of solidarity and strategic regional commitment in our region is, of course, the Southern Gas Corridor project implemented on the initiative of Azerbaijan, which is a reliable partner for our region."
The deputy minister recalled that Bulgaria effectively became part of the SGC with the commissioning of the Greece-Bulgaria Interconnector (IGB) in 2022: "Currently, we are developing the 'Vertical Gas Corridor' infrastructure. This will contribute to security and diversification of supply from reliable routes and sources for Central and Eastern European countries, as well as Moldova, Ukraine and, of course, Southeast Europe. Currently, the partnership around the Southern Gas Corridor is evolving to adapt to energy transition needs."
