Huseyn Huseynov: Investments in clean energy are twice as high as investments in fossil fuels

Today, for every dollar invested in the oil and gas sector, approximately $2 is invested in solar and wind generation, grid infrastructure, and energy storage technologies, Huseyn Huseynov, advisor to the minister of economy of Azerbaijan, said at a forum on Azerbaijan's investment prospects, organized as part of the annual meetings of the Islamic Development Bank Group (IsDB) in Baku, Report informs.

He noted that, according to forecasts from the International Energy Agency, global investment in the energy sector in 2026 will amount to $3.4 trillion, of which approximately $2.2 trillion (approximately 65%) will be allocated to clean energy.

"This volume is almost twice the capital allocated to the development of fossil fuels. The energy transition is no longer a matter of ideology. It is the leading commercial paradigm of our time. However, the distribution of capital remains uneven. The key problem isn't a lack of investment readiness. It's the lack of a sufficient number of reliable, investor-attractive projects - those with predictable revenue streams, guaranteed contractual obligations, transparent regulations, and a structure that meets institutional capital standards. It's precisely this gap that Azerbaijan is purposefully and systematically seeking to close," the minister's advisor emphasized.
