Grossi: IAEA received over 600 renewable energy projects from Azerbaijan and Central Asia

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has received more than 600 renewable energy (RE) projects from Azerbaijan and Central Asian countries, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said at the 31st Baku Energy Forum, according to Report.

"We received more than 600 applications from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, with around 15 projects expected to be shortlisted for investor selection. Many projects are still at an early stage and require additional technical preparation," he said.

Grossi emphasized that Central Asia is becoming an important region in the global energy transition, with significant renewable energy potential and growing investment attractiveness.

He added that stronger regional coordination and harmonized mechanisms are needed to accelerate renewable energy development and project implementation.

Grossi also noted that in 2025 renewable energy became the most competitive source of electricity generation globally, while Central Asia continues to show steady growth in solar and wind energy.
