The creation of the Azerbaijan–Georgia–Türkiye–Bulgaria green energy corridor is of great importance for ensuring regional energy security, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said at a joint press conference in Sofia with his Bulgarian counterpart Velislava Petrova-Chamova, Report informs.
The Turkish minister also emphasized that energy is one of the main areas of cooperation between Türkiye and Bulgaria: "Our relations expand, diversify, and deepen every year."
"Last year in Baku, a memorandum of cooperation on the transmission and trade of green electricity was signed with the participation of Azerbaijan and Georgia, which is of great importance for energy security. At the same time, the memorandum signed last year on cooperation in electricity and energy efficiency is giving new momentum to our energy partnership with Bulgaria," Fidan noted.
In April 2025, the energy ministers of Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye signed a memorandum on cooperation in green energy, launching the project to create the Azerbaijan–Georgia–Türkiye–Bulgaria energy corridor. Preparation of the feasibility study for the project will begin in 2026.
The new corridor will ensure the supply of green electricity from the Caspian region to Southeastern Europe, particularly Bulgaria, as well as Romania and Hungary.
