Exploration well at depth of 5,305 meters drilled in Shafag-Asiman

On the Shafag-Asiman offshore block, the first exploration well was spudded on 13 January 2020, Report informs, citing a statement issued by the block's operator, BP-Azerbaijan, and partners on the results of 2020 business.
Drilling activities are currently ongoing, and the well is at a depth of 5,305 meters.
Once the well reaches the target depth, the data will be analyzed and, if successful, an evaluation program may be conducted to confirm the results.
The agreement on the Shafag-Asiman block signed by BP and State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in October 2010 covers 30 years. The share of each company in the contract is 50%. The block is located 125 km south-east of Baku. It is believed that there are gas reserves here.
