EU to continue gas cooperation with Azerbaijan, focus on clean energy

The European Union will continue cooperation with Azerbaijan in the gas sector while placing greater emphasis on developing clean energy, the European Commission told Report's European bureau, commenting on the recent EU-Azerbaijan High-Level Energy Dialogue.

At the fourth meeting of the EU-Azerbaijan Energy Dialogue, held in Brussels on October 2, the sides discussed prospects for gas supplies, renewable energy development, electricity grids, green energy corridors, energy efficiency and methane emissions reductions, according to Azerbaijan's Energy Ministry.

"The meeting is a regular energy dialogue where we reaffirmed our continued cooperation on gas but focus on clean energy as well, along the lines of the visit Commissioner Joergensen had in March," a European Commission representative told Report.

In March, EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jorgensen and Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov co-chaired meetings of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and the Green Energy Advisory Council in Baku.

At that time, the sides discussed natural gas supplies and energy security, as well as renewable energy, energy efficiency, hydrogen and methane emissions reductions.

According to the Azerbaijani side, 12.8 billion cubic meters of gas was supplied to Europe in 2025, while more than 7 billion cubic meters was delivered during the first eight months of 2026.

This year, Azerbaijani gas began flowing to Germany and Austria for the first time, bringing the number of EU countries receiving gas from Azerbaijan to 10.
