Erlind Sulo: Albania aims to become an electricity exporter

Albania plans to become an exporter of electricity by 2030, Albania's Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Erlind Sulo said at the 31st Baku Energy Forum.

According to Report, he said that the country was previously focused on domestic energy supply and system modernization, but has now shifted toward electricity export plans. He noted that in the past four years Albania has developed solar energy from scratch up to 3 GW.

Sulo also stated that Albania currently operates on 100% renewable energy: 87% comes from hydropower, and around 30% from solar energy.

The deputy minister added that, as part of diversification efforts, the country plans to develop gas infrastructure, including a pilot project with SOCAR. According to him, this will strengthen the energy system and improve access to the European market.

He also mentioned plans for a submarine electricity interconnector with Italy and signed documents with the UAE, which are expected to help Albania become a regional energy hub.
