Emomali Rahmon proposes construction of large oil refinery in Central Asia

President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has proposed to consider the issue of constructing a large oil refinery in Central Asia.

According to Report's correspondent in Kyrgyzstan, the President of Tajikistan put forward this initiative at the informal consultative meeting of the heads of state of Central Asia and Azerbaijan in Cholpon-Ata.

Rahmon highlighted that the issue of energy security is one of the key factors for the sustainable development of the region and requires joint decisions:

"I propose that our relevant bodies be tasked with working out the issue of constructing a large oil refinery in the region with the involvement of the latest technologies. At the same time, of course, the domestic demand of the regional countries for critically important types of petroleum products should be taken into account first and foremost."
