The foundation of a sustainable energy strategy lies in demand, infrastructure, and partnerships, BP Vice President for Business Development in the Caspian region Chingiz Hajiyev said during a panel discussion at the 31st Baku Energy Week.
He said that industrialization, electrification, and population growth are driving increased demand for gas, adding that gas is not being displaced from the market - on the contrary, demand continues to grow.
"In ensuring energy security, the role of infrastructure is increasing. Today, a gas pipeline is more expensive than it was five or ten years ago. Gas is not just a fuel, but a strategic tool connecting economies, industries, and countries," Hajiyev said.
He also noted that the Southern Gas Corridor, stretching around 3,500 km from the Caspian Sea to Europe, is the result of a timely strategic decision.
"Many did not believe in this project. Today, this infrastructure serves energy security in a geopolitically unstable environment," he added.
