BP, a company with long-standing expertise in methane management, is ready to support other companies and national oil firms that are still at the early stages of addressing methane emissions, BP's Methane Manager Sonna Sathiamoorthy said on the second day of the Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW2025), Report informs.
Sathiamoorthy noted that the company is actively involved in projects with the World Bank and other international initiatives to support methane reduction globally.
"BP is a member of the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI), but our decisions are not directly dictated by these organizations. We assess each initiative based on its value," he explained. "We evaluate in three areas: first, the direct benefit to our operations and the value of collaboration with peer companies and international partners. OGCI has been a platform for benchmarking and sharing best practices for over a decade."
Sathiamoorthy also emphasized that the second area of focus involves supporting performance improvement in joint ventures where BP is not the operator.
"Initiatives like the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP) play a vital role in enabling collaboration with partners in these contexts," she added.
BP continues to position itself as a leader in methane reduction, aiming to share its knowledge and tools to elevate global industry standards.
