BP delivers first electrical equipment to Shafag solar project site

BP has delivered the first electrical equipment to the construction site of the Shafag solar energy project in Azerbaijan's Jabrayil district, paving the way for electrical installation work to begin in the coming weeks, Report informs.

This was stated in BP-Azerbaijan's report on the results of the first half of 2026, published on behalf of its partners.

According to the report, significant progress was recorded in construction work on the Shafag solar project in the first six months of this year.

The procurement and delivery to the site of key equipment, including photovoltaic modules and structural components, have been successfully completed, and significant progress has also been made in installing piles and tracker systems, the report said.

The installation of the first solar panel at the project site in early April was described as an important milestone.

The involvement of local labor resources in construction work under the project is expanding. Around 420 local employees are currently working on the project, including 150 residents newly settled in the liberated territories. More than 700 jobs are expected to be created at the project during the peak construction period.

Existing accommodation facilities at the site are being expanded to house the growing workforce.

Environmental protection remains among the project's priorities. In this context, vegetation clearance at the construction site is being monitored, while the safe relocation of wildlife from the area is being carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.

Construction work on the project is expected to continue until mid-2027.

Shafag Jabrayil Solar Limited, SJSL, has the following shareholding structure: BP, 40.01%; SOCAR Green, 39.99%; Azerbaijan Business Development Fund, 10%; and MVM, 10%.
