Azerenerji: 1,910 MW of renewable power to be integrated into grid by 2028

By 2028, 1,910 MW of renewable energy capacity will be integrated into Azerbaijan's power grid, Rustam Gasimov, Deputy Chairman of Azerenerji JSC, said during the session themed Digital Management Architecture of Azerbaijan's Energy System held within the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.

According to him, with existing renewable capacity, the figure will reach approximately 2 gigawatts: "To maintain and further develop the green energy balance, we plan to combine this with relevant hydropower."

Gasimov noted that to achieve this target, Azerbaijan has introduced a new technology - Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS): "In April and May of this year, with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev, two major battery storage systems were inaugurated, each with a capacity of 250 MW/h."

He added that the grid currently includes over 500 MW from solar and wind power plants, along with battery storage systems: "Other contracts have already been signed, ensuring that by 2028, integration of 2 GW capacity into the grid will be guaranteed. By the end of 2028, we plan to increase the capacity of battery systems to 1,000 MW/h."
