Azerbaijani gas supply to Syria via Türkiye surpassed 735 mcm in 1H26

In January–June 2026, 735.3 million cubic meters of Azerbaijani natural gas were delivered to Syria through Turkish territory.

According to Report, citing Türkiye's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK), this accounted for 66.49% of Türkiye's total gas exports during the first half of the year. No gas was exported from Türkiye to Syria in the same period of 2025.

In June alone, Türkiye exported 162 million cubic meters of gas to Syria, while overall exports for the month stood at 199.9 million cubic meters.

During the six‑month period, Türkiye exported nearly 1.106 billion cubic meters of natural gas in total, of which 735.3 million cubic meters (66.49%) went to Syria, just under 370 million cubic meters (33.45%) to Bulgaria, and 0.69 million cubic meters (0.06%) to North Macedonia.

Meanwhile, Türkiye imported just over 30.689 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the first half of 2026, a 2.64% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

Based on customs declarations, Azerbaijan exported approximately 12.431 billion cubic meters of natural gas worth just over $4.105 billion in the first half of 2026. Compared to the corresponding period of 2025, export volume rose by 0.5%, while export value declined by 9.6%. Natural gas accounted for 25.15% of Azerbaijan's total exports in this period.

The gas supply project was launched following the July 12, 2025 visit of Syria's transitional President Ahmed al-Sharaa to Azerbaijan, during which SOCAR and the Syrian government signed a memorandum of understanding. Technical preparations were completed, and exports began on August 2, 2025.

In the first phase of the project, Syria is set to receive 1.2 billion cubic meters of gas annually, delivered via Türkiye's Kilis city to power plants in Aleppo and Homs for electricity generation. The initiative aims to secure production of 1,200–1,300 megawatts of electricity.
