Azerbaijan, Türkiye expand energy cooperation across key sectors

Six working group meetings were held in Baku as part of the 5th Azerbaijan-Türkiye Energy Forum, with the participation of Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar.

According to Report, reports were presented by the heads of working groups covering hydrocarbons and petrochemicals, the electricity market, electricity distribution and transmission, regulation, energy efficiency and mining.

The sides reviewed current and future projects in the hydrocarbon sector, natural gas supplies, gas infrastructure development and joint cooperation on digitalization.

They agreed to continue joint work and exchange experience on electricity market regulation, interconnections, support for renewable energy sources, energy storage technologies, smart metering systems and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.

The sides also identified green energy exports and improvements to regulatory mechanisms for reforms in the gas sector as areas for further cooperation.

They agreed to expand cooperation and experience-sharing on offshore wind energy, investment and permitting procedures for renewable energy projects, the active consumer model, solar and wind projects, capacity building and the integration of renewable energy sources into the power grid.

In the field of energy efficiency, the sides agreed to cooperate on monitoring energy consumption by entities subject to mandatory energy audits, developing the ESCO market, training energy managers and project specialists, introducing energy performance certification for buildings, strengthening energy-efficiency financing and support mechanisms, calculating emissions and moving relevant processes to digital platforms.
