Azerbaijan-Türkiye energy partnership gains new strategic dimension

The Azerbaijan-Türkiye strategic partnership has strengthened further amid the current regional geopolitical environment and global challenges, giving energy cooperation a new strategic dimension, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said.

According to Report, he made the remarks at the 5th Azerbaijan-Türkiye Energy Forum in Baku.

Shahbazov said the current stage is characterized by efforts to strengthen national and regional energy security, further diversify energy flows, establish electricity links that meet the requirements of the new electricity era, integrate energy systems and advance a shared vision for the Turkic world.

"The Azerbaijan-Türkiye Energy Forum, through its regular meetings and working groups, contributes to the implementation of this strategic agenda and continuously supports the deepening of our cooperation in hydrocarbons, renewable energy, energy efficiency, electricity regulation and mining. During this period, our joint efforts have enriched our energy partnership with significant achievements," he said.

Shahbazov highlighted the commissioning of the Igdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline, which he said reflected the strong political will of both countries, as well as the participation of Türkiye Petrolleri Anonim Ortaklığı (TPAO) in the Shafag-Asiman project.

He also pointed to an agreement to export part of the gas to be produced during the full-scale development of the Absheron field to Türkiye, as well as the delivery of Azerbaijani gas via Türkiye to new European markets beyond the coverage of the Southern Gas Corridor and to Syria.

According to the minister, these developments clearly demonstrate the expanding scale and geographic reach of the Azerbaijan-Türkiye energy partnership.
