Azerbaijan to start negotiations on Caspian-Black Sea-Europe energy corridor in coming months, deputy minister says

Azerbaijan will begin negotiations with potential partners and international financial institutions on the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe energy corridor project in the coming months, aiming to prepare for a possible Final Investment Decision (FID), Deputy Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan Orkhan Zeynalov said during a panel discussion at the Second Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2026) in Baku, Report informs.

According to the deputy minister, the feasibility study for the corridor has shown encouraging results. "The final price of electricity supply to Europe looks very favorable compared to current prices on the European market," he said.

Similar negotiations on the Trans-Caspian interconnector project linking Central Asia with Azerbaijan are planned to begin in 2027. Zeynalov noted that this project will also support the country's other energy initiatives.

The deputy minister emphasized that Azerbaijan's regional and cross-border projects create opportunities for the integration of renewable energy sources and their transmission across the space from Central Asia to Europe. When developing individual routes, he noted, it is necessary to assess their contribution and how they will complement one another.

Speaking about the Azerbaijan-Türkiye energy corridor project, Zeynalov noted that BCG and TÜBITAK have completed its feasibility study. Details are currently being discussed with private consortia.

"The project also has political significance. Ultimately, it should connect the mainland of Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan, and then ensure the export of 1 GW of electricity to Türkiye," the deputy minister stated.
