Azerbaijan's polyethylene exports up by about 25% in 2023

In 2023, Azerbaijan exported 150,060.74 tons of polyethylene in primary forms for over $155,436,300, respectively, up 24.8% and 5.36% from the previous year, Report informs, citing the country's State Customs Committee

The share of polyethylene in Azerbaijan's non-oil sector exports was 4.64%. Meanwhile, the percentage of polyethylene in its primary form in the country's total exports was 0.46%.

In 2023, Azerbaijan carried out trade operations with foreign countries in the amount of $51.184 billion. Of the foreign trade turnover, $33.899 billion accounted for exports and $17.285 billion for imports.

Polyethylene and polypropylene are produced in Azerbaijan at the SOCAR Polymer plant. The SOCAR Polymer project includes a polypropylene plant with an annual production capacity of 184,000 tons and a high-density polyethylene plant with a yearly production capacity of 120,000 tons. The polypropylene plant was commissioned on July 18, 2018, with the participation of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella. The export of polypropylene started on October 5, 2018.
