Azerbaijan's petroleum bitumen exports nearly triple

Azerbaijan exported 12,310.41 tons of petroleum bitumen in January-August 2026.

According to Report, citing the State Customs Committee, the exports were worth $3.738 million.

Compared with the first eight months of 2025, the volume of petroleum bitumen exports increased 2.9-fold, while their value rose 3.3-fold.

Petroleum bitumen accounted for 0.02% of Azerbaijan's total exports during the reporting period.

In January-August 2026, Azerbaijan conducted foreign trade operations worth $33.238 billion. Exports accounted for $21.815 billion of the foreign trade turnover, while imports amounted to $11.423 billion. Over the past year, exports increased by 27.8%, while imports declined by 24.1%.

SOCAR's Heydar Aliyev Oil Refinery, the only oil refining facility in the region, supplies Azerbaijan with fuels such as AI-92 gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, while also providing raw materials to SOCAR's petrochemical enterprises in Azerbaijan. Part of the refinery's output is exported.

Modernization and reconstruction work at the refinery is aimed at increasing its production capacity, supplying the country with high-quality fuel meeting Euro 5 standards, ensuring a stable supply of raw materials to the Azerikimya Production Union and increasing the export potential of petroleum products. The project is of major importance to the country's industry.
