Azerbaijan, Romania discuss creation of green energy corridor to Europe

Energy cooperation plays an important role in the development of the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Romania.

According to Report, citing the Ministry of Energy, the issue was discussed during talks between Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and Romanian Presidential Adviser for National Security Marius-Gabriel Lazurca.

"At the meeting, it was emphasized that the energy sector plays an important role in the development of relations between the two countries, based on strategic partnership. Oil and gas supplies, as well as the extensive activities of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in Romania, are noted as indicators of a high level of cooperation in the hydrocarbon sector," the statement said.

It was also noted that the "Caspian Sea – Black Sea – Europe" green energy corridor project will further strengthen cooperation in the electricity sector. Lazurca stressed the special importance of this project not only for individual countries, but also for the energy security and sustainable development of the European Union as a whole, noting that Azerbaijan serves as an important energy partner for Europe within this initiative.

During the meeting, it was reported that the results of the project's feasibility study will be presented in the near future. It was also noted that the project will create long-term economic and energy benefits both for producing countries, particularly Azerbaijan, and for Romania, Hungary, and other Central and Eastern European countries.

The sides also discussed Romania's ongoing innovations in the energy sector and assessed prospects for further cooperation.
