Azerbaijan plans 6 GW of wind energy by 2032, minister says

Wind measurement and monitoring activities are currently underway in the Caspian Sea to assess the development potential of offshore wind power stations, Azerbaijan's Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said during the second day of Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW2025), Report informs.

According to Shahbazov, Azerbaijan plans to commission 6 GW of wind energy-both onshore and offshore-by 2032. Of this, 4 GW will be exported through the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe Green Energy Corridor, which is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 4.5 million tons.

He added that the realization of several key energy corridors remains a top priority. These include the Trans-Caspian Green Energy Corridor, the Azerbaijan-Nakhchivan-Europe corridor via Armenia and Türkiye, and the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Türkiye-Bulgaria corridor.

"These large-scale projects will support the balancing of regional grids, increase the share of renewables, strengthen energy security, reduce emissions, and reinforce Azerbaijan"s role as a key contributor to climate action across a broad region," Shahbazov noted.

The minister also said Azerbaijan is preparing an action plan to implement a national strategic vision on hydrogen covering its production, consumption, and export: "Azerbaijan remains committed to its green energy transition and is taking consistent steps in this direction."
