Azerbaijan builds largest BESSs in region

Azerbaijan is building the largest battery energy storage systems (BESSs) in the region, Report informs, citing the Azerenerji OJSC.

According to the company, Azerbaijan is entering a new stage in the energy sector. The creation of large-scale BESSs has begun in the country for the rapid development of renewable energy sources (RES).

Thus, AzerEnerji is creating BESSs with a total capacity of 250 megawatts and storage capacity of 500 megawatt-hours on the territory of the 500-kilovolt Absheron substation near the capital and the 220-kilovolt Agdash substation located in the central part of the country.

Currently, necessary construction work is being carried out on-site, and work is underway to manufacture and deliver elements to the site based on orders. The implementation of systems of this scale will be a first not only in Azerbaijan but throughout the CIS region.
