In January-September this year, Azerbaijan exported 14.927 billion cubic meters of natural gas worth $ 2.951 billion.
Report informs, citing the State Customs Committee, that 7.833 billion cubic meters ($ 1.207 billion) were exported to Turkey and 2.262 billion ($281 million) cubic meters to Georgia.
Besides, 3.995 billion cubic meters of natural gas was exported to Italy, 501.7 million cubic meters to Greece, 166.1 million cubic meters to Bulgaria, and 169.4 million cubic meters to Iran over the past nine months.
Thus, Azerbaijan exported $ 1.268 million worth of natural gas to Italy, $ 163.8 million to Greece, $ 25.5 million to Bulgaria, and $ 6.4 million to Iran.
Azerbaijan exports natural gas from the Shah Deniz field. Natural gas volumes are delivered to foreign markets via the South Caucasus Pipeline (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum) and the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP). The first gas entered the Turkish market via the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipeline in 2007. The transportation of commercial gas via TANAP began on June 30, 2018.
TAP transports natural gas from the giant Shah Deniz field in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea to Europe. The 878 km long pipeline connects with the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) at the Turkish-Greek border in Kipoi, crosses Greece and Albania and the Adriatic Sea, before coming ashore in Southern Italy.
TAP will facilitate gas supplies to South Eastern European countries through prospective interconnectors. In particular, Bulgaria will be able to cover up to 33% of its total gas demand through TAP after the completion of the Interconnector Greece Bulgaria (IGB). TAP’s exits in Greece and Albania together with the landfall in Italy provide multiple opportunities for further transport of gas from Azerbaijan to the wider European markets.
Azerbaijan and Iran are connected by the Gazi Mohammad-Bind-Biand gas pipeline with a total length of 1,474.5 kilometers - 296.5 kilometers located in Azerbaijan. This route is a branch of the Gazakh-Astara-Iran pipeline, which was commissioned in 1971. The diameter of the pipeline is 1,200 millimeters.
