Azerbaijan sets a goal to conduct a large-scale transformation of its energy system and secure the status of a crucial regional clean energy hub by increasing renewable energy sources (RES) capacities, introducing digital technologies, and developing cross-border infrastructure, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency Javid Abdullayev said during a panel discussion at Baku Climate Action Week 2026 (BCAW 2026), Report informs.
"The global energy transition is entering a fundamentally new stage. Today, it is not just about simply increasing generating capacities based on RES. The key task is their full integration into the economic system, attracting investment flows, and ensuring energy security. For Azerbaijan, innovative development, digital transformation, and interstate interaction are inextricably linked and form the foundation of the strategy for the long term," Abdullayev emphasized.
As the head of the State Agency noted, the country's strategic task consists not only of increasing the share of renewable sources in the national energy balance but also of forming new green sectors of the economy. In addition to expanding solar and wind generation projects, the republic is actively developing the areas of green hydrogen and geothermal energy.
