11 new power plants expected to connect to Azerbaijan's grid by end-2027

Eleven new power plants are expected to be connected to Azerbaijan's electricity grid by the end of 2027, Javid Abdullayev, Chairman of the State Agency for Renewable Energy Sources under the Ministry of Energy, told Report.

Abdullayev said intensive work would likely continue to complete the commissioning of the Bilasuvar Solar Power Plant, or at least its connection to the grid, by the end of this year.

"Work on the Neftchala Solar Power Plant will be completed next year. The plant, for which a Chinese company won the tender, is planned to be commissioned in the near future. The goal is to complete the project within a short period," he said.

Abdullayev noted that local companies are also constructing two power plants in Nakhchivan.

"During President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Nakhchivan, he reviewed the progress at these plants and issued relevant instructions. At the same time, we have two 50 MW solar power plants in Jabrayil, where intensive work is also underway," he said.

"We believe that by the end of 2027, the 11 plants set as our target, with a combined capacity of nearly 2 GW, will be connected to the grid," Abdullayev added.
