Student literacy improves over past decade in Azerbaijan, monitoring results show

Student literacy has improved over the past 10 years in Azerbaijan, as evidenced by monitoring results, Chairperson of the State Examination Center (SEC) Maleyka Abbaszada stated at the September conference of education workers, Report informs.

According to her, while in 2012, monitoring among ninth-graders in a rural school revealed students who could not read, today such cases are practically non-existent.

She also noted that students are involved in monitoring starting from the 4th grade. "The reason lies in the need to prevent such cases exactly at the initial stage," Abbaszada said.

Abbaszada emphasized that the monitoring results are submitted to the Ministry of Science and Education, after which students demonstrating very poor results are identified.
