Girls outperform boys in mathematical literacy in Azerbaijan for first time, Emin Amrullayev says

Girls in Azerbaijan have shown better results than boys in mathematical literacy for the first time, Azerbaijani Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev said during a presentation of the results of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2025.

Report quotes him as saying such a result had not previously been observed in the country, with girls outperforming boys by approximately 13 points.

"It is necessary to analyze what is happening with 15-year-old boys' attitudes toward mathematics," the minister noted.

The 2025 PISA results were among the best news for Azerbaijan in the field of mathematics education. The mathematics score of students in Baku increased by 63 points compared with the previous assessment, reaching 460 points. Under the PISA scale, this represents a very significant improvement.
