Azerbaijani Sunday school opens in Almaty

An Azerbaijani Sunday school has opened in Almaty, offering free classes in Azerbaijani and Kazakh languages, as well as lessons introducing students to Azerbaijan's history, culture, and literature.

According to Report's Kazakhstan bureau, the school was established through the initiative of Azerbaijan's Embassy in Kazakhstan, with support from the State Committee on Work with Diaspora, Azerbaijani ethnocultural associations in Almaty, and Azerbaijanis living in Kazakhstan.

The opening ceremony began with the national anthems of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.

Speaking at the event, Vusal Aliyev, Head of the Representative Office of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Almaty, emphasized that the school holds special importance for the second and third generations of Azerbaijanis living outside their historical homeland.

He recalled that Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev, at the 5th Congress of World Azerbaijanis held in Shusha, stressed the importance of preserving the native language, national culture, and ties with Azerbaijan among compatriots abroad.

According to Aliyev, the school's opening also carries significance for the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.

"We are not just creating an educational platform; we are building another bridge between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. I am confident that the Sunday school will become not only a place of learning but also a space for communication, cultural exchange, new friendships, and joint initiatives," he said.
