Azerbaijan to join Int'l Consortium for Study of Steppe Civilization

The Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) will join the International Scientific Consortium for the Study of the Steppe Civilization, Report informs, citing the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Azerbaijan following a meeting between ANAS President Isa Habibbayli and Kazakh Ambassador Alim Bayel.

The sides discussed the development of scientific cooperation between the two countries, as well as collaboration within the Turkic world.

Habibbayli expressed readiness to strengthen ties with the National Academy of Sciences under the President of Kazakhstan.

During the meeting, Bayel spoke about the international symposium titled "The Golden Horde as a Model of Steppe Civilization: History, Archaeology, Culture, Identity," held in May this year, thanking Azerbaijani scholars for their participation.

At the symposium, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized that his country is the heir to the Golden Horde and called for a comprehensive study of the historical state's heritage.

In this context, Bayel conveyed Kazakhstan's invitation for Azerbaijan to act as a co-founder of the consortium.

Habibbayli noted the historical significance of the initiative, confirming that ANAS will become a member of the consortium and take an active part in its work.

The strategic goal of the International Scientific Consortium for the Study of the Steppe Civilization is to establish an international platform for comprehensive research into the history and culture of the Turkic peoples and the civilization of the Great Steppe, as well as their role in the development of statehood and diplomacy.
