If there is no good primary education system, building digital skills will be problematic, Azerbaijan's Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev said at the Baku ID (Baku Investment Day) festival, Report informs.
He said that when the Digital Skills project was launched more than a decade ago, it involved only 5,000 students, while the figure has now reached 600,000 - approximately half of the students in Azerbaijan's general education schools.
"At the same time, when we look at the fundamentals, our latest PISA results reflect very well where we stand in mathematics. I think that, when compared with certain countries in terms of size and population, this is one of the areas where we have seen quite good results," Amrullayev said.
According to the 2025 PISA results, Azerbaijani students in Baku recorded a significant improvement in mathematics. Their score increased by 63 points compared with the previous assessment, reaching 460 points.
Amrullayev said this represents a substantial increase on the PISA scale.
