RTPI representative: Tougher response measures needed amid growing climate risks

Amid growing climate risks, there is a need to shift to tougher and more locally focused response measures.

Report informs that a representative of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) said this at an event held as part of WUF13 in Baku.

He noted that, despite numerous discussions about the climate crisis, neither society nor political institutions are yet taking the actions required in an emergency situation.

"If a building caught fire, we would immediately run out. However, we do not treat the climate crisis with the same sense of urgency," he said.

According to him, the world faces the risk of global temperature rise exceeding 1.5 degrees, so every decision must take into account the long-term consequences for people, communities and ecosystems.

The RTPI representative stressed the need to radically reduce carbon emissions in construction and make more active use of urban planning tools to accelerate the transformation and modernization of cities.
