Presidential aide calls for taking climate action beyond scope of conferences

Reaching climate agreements is only the first step: the main test for the global community will be the ability to turn commitments made into concrete results and ensure the continuation of climate action beyond international conferences, Representative of the President of Azerbaijan on Climate Issues Mukhtar Babayev said at a round table during Baku Climate Action Week 2026 (BCAW 2026), Report informs.

According to him, it is necessary to ensure that the COP process stimulates more active practical actions and is not limited to work strictly during the period of climate conferences.

"In a fragmented world, climate leaders should not pretend that disagreements do not exist. Climate leadership requires finding areas where countries with completely different interests can still find common ground and achieve results together," Babayev noted.

He emphasized that ahead of COP31, which will be held in Antalya, Türkiye, a practical approach to international cooperation takes on special importance.

Babayev added that the ability to reach agreements is only one component of climate leadership.

"The next test will be our ability to turn the agreements reached into real results," he emphasized.
